About SeaBlue

A Tanzanian blue-economy company built from listening.

SeaBlue Innovators grew from time spent with coastal communities — understanding the seaweed economy first-hand, then building an enterprise that returns value to the people closest to the sea.

Farhiya Elmy — founder

How it began at Kwale Island

A cycle where value flows both ways.

01

The journey

In 2023, founder Farhiya Elmy travelled to Kwale Island to understand coastal life and the seaweed economy first-hand.

02

The encounter

She met women working the ocean in difficult conditions, carrying the hardest labour of the seaweed trade.

03

The contradiction

Communities lived beside enormous natural wealth, yet captured little of the value the ocean produced.

04

The response

SeaBlue Innovators was created to close that gap — restoring ecosystems while returning value to the people closest to the sea.

The model

A cycle where value flows both ways.

Healthy oceans and strong livelihoods reinforce each other — each step feeds the next, and value stays with the community.

Healthy ocean

Restored reefs and cleaner water

Stronger livelihoods

Reliable income for women and youth

Higher-value products

Premium, natural seaweed goods

Community stewardship

Local ownership sustains the cycle
